Hear the next contest song, "Dark Summer"
Back when we set up the theme for February's portion of the "Especially
For You" Song Contest, we decided to twist Valentine's Day and explore
the other side of love. Our newest song, "Dark Summer" is
the result of the winning essay that month written by Summer
Solstice. We asked about saying "get lost" and she responded
wonderfully. Come take a listen, and remember, you can only hear
the pre-mastered version of the song on our MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/poppermost) during the month of May. Thanks Summer.
Halfway Through the Contest!
Are you one of the people reading this and wondering, "Hey, why haven't
they written a song for me yet?" Could it possibly be that you
haven't entered yet, hmmm? Even if you have entered in
previous months but didn't win yet, you can still enter again.
We're halfway through the contest, so there are six more chances for
you to win a Poppermost song written especially for you. Just
answer the Poppermost trivia question correctly, then write a little
something pertaining to this month's topic. Come on, give it a
shot. You know you're just dying to dust the cobwebs off your
writing brain.
This month we're balancing out the song from the twisted side of love
and asking you to write about the really good
mushy-gushy-can't-live-without-them kind of love.
May Trivia Question:
Which Poppermost song talks about
a shot glass (the singer's)? What's in it?
May "Story / Thoughts" Theme:
In the form of a letter,
tell the love of your life how
you truly feel about them.
Haven't seen the previous winning submissions yet? No problem, they're all located at http://www.poppermost.com/songcontest.html for your reading pleasure. Yours could be there soon if you enter!
A Vote For Recognition...
There's a new website where someone has posted our
music and a bunch of other cool music in several different
genres. It's set up to vote (only one vote per computer) and the
purpose is basically to get recognition. If you have a moment and
can go vote for Poppermost at http://www.votenewmusic.com/wordpress/?p=49, that would be lovely. While you're there, take a listen to some of the other music as well, and enjoy yourself.
After you hear "Dark Summer," our new song on MySpace,
let us know what you think. We love hearing from you guys!
We've said it before and we'll keep right on saying it: without you,
there is no us!
Thanks for everything,
Lex, Ms Tex, and Royal

Our Next "Contest" Song Is Up: "Pattie's Record World"
A brand new Poppermost Song Contest song is up and ready for your
enjoyment. "Pattie's Record World" is a tribute to the song's
namesake and the magical world of the record store, something we fear
is quickly becoming an endangered species. Until the album is
released next year, you can hear the pre-mastered version of this song
ONLY on our MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/poppermost)
and ONLY for the month of April. Thanks Pattie for writing a
wicked essay and being our third contest winner. Your world rocks!
And yes, folks! She really did meet Bo Diddley, and even played his rectangle guitar. How cool is that? Just very, that's all.
Hey! Win Your Own Song Here!
Why not pay tribute to your favorite people, places, and things in
song? C'mon and win a Poppersong to call your very own!
Here is your new chance to win a song written "Especially For
You." Just answer the Poppermost trivia question correctly, then
drop us a line (or a few) relating to this month's topic. How
easy is that? Just very, that's all. Good luck!
April Trivia Question:
Ms. Tex shares a birthday with her
hero, another world class drummer.
Who is this fabulous drummer?
April "Story / Thoughts" Theme:
Who is the most resilient and
inspiring person you know?
Tell us who and why.
If you want to see the variety of styles submitted already, and get
some ideas, or just see a couple more details about this thing, visit
our song contest page, http://www.poppermost.com/songcontest.html and read the stories that have won previously. You could be next!
Speaking of winners...
Every one of you good folks who responded to let us know you voted in the Las Vegas Weekly
Readers' Choice survey is a big winner in our eyes. We are you
and you are us. Thanks again for taking the time and
effort. We'll let you know the results next month. Until
then, take care and remember to put a little love in your heart.
Thanks,
Lex, Ms Tex, and Royal

We're sharing a special news bulletin March 19, 2008...
One of our local alternative papers here in Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Weekly, is having their annual Readers' Choice awards, and we'd like your vote, please.
It's very easy! Just go to LasVegasWeekly.com
and click on the Reader's Choice banner. When you see the box for
"Local band" please enter "Poppermost." And when you see the box
for "Local Myspace.com page" enter "MySpace.com/Poppermost."
Your vote is needed by March 26th, and the results will be available on April 30th. Anyone can vote, even if they don't live in
Vegas. On those categories (except the band vote, of course) that
might not be familiar, just leave them blank. Also, no registration is
required, so you can remain anonymous if you desire.
While we have your attention, here's a reminder that the winning essay
for February's song contest has been posted. Our congratulations
go out to Summer Solstice (location withheld by request) for her
inspiring story of how she told someone to get out of her life.
You can read her story at http://www.poppermost.com/songcontest.html.
And remember to go hear the swinging sounds of "Sweet Sofia Marie" at http://www.myspace.com/poppermost. It's only there another couple weeks.
Thanks for your vote and be sure to tell your friends,
Lex, Ms. Tex, and Royal

Our Second "Contest" Song Is Up: "Sweet Sofia Marie"
The next Poppermost Song Contest song is up and running, and we DO mean running!
It's called "Sweet Sofia Marie," and in honor of this happy,
mischievous child, draws its spirit from the boogie woogie and swing of
the Big Band era. Until the album is released next year, you can
hear the pre-mastered version of this song ONLY on our MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/poppermost)
and ONLY for the month of March. Thanks again to John and Tania
D.G of California for their beautiful thoughts on their lovely
daughter, thereby becoming our second contest winner.
Win Your Own Song Here!
March... Spring... a time to toss off the old cloak of
darkness and winter... a time of new beginning... a time of growth and
enlightenment. It is this time we honor with our theme this month.
March Trivia Question:
Which two Poppermost songs
deal with personal growth by
"living life on your own terms" and
"finding success and self-fulfillment?"
Hint: Content in quotes are not lyrics.
March "Story / Thoughts" Theme:
To what event or time in your life
can you attribute personal growth?
Be sure to check the new song contest page, http://www.poppermost.com/songcontest.html
and scroll down for the winners in a couple weeks to see who won in
February, and if you haven't read the winning stories for the previous
months yet, get your butt over there already. In addition to the
essay itself, January's info mentions a very important change
in Lex's life, for those of you who haven't heard. Curious
yet? You should be. Light a fire under your mouse finger
and click here. It's that easy!
New Website
While you're taking a peek at the winning stories,
please note that our very own Royal as been hard at work creating a
brand new look for the Poppermost website. Naturally, we think
it's absolutely stunning, and would love to hear your thoughts on it,
as well. If, in the process of exploring the new site, you
encounter any problems, misdirected links, or anything that doesn't
seem right, we'd really appreciate if you could tell us.
And for any bands or artists who are looking for places to perform, or
folks who want to know about places to visit while they're in town,
Royal has done an amazing amount of research on the venues in
the Las Vegas area. There is a wealth of incredible information
about literally hundreds of venues, meeting spaces, and rehearsal
studios that includes contact info with addresses, phone numbers, and
websites, plus styles of entertainment, audience capacity, and much
more. Located at http://www.poppermost.com/linksvegasvenues.html, it is most definitely a "must see" in your tour of our site.
In Closing
Hear "Sweet Sofia Marie" here (http://www.myspace.com/poppermost),
and remember, if you want your own song, enter the contest. Most
importantly, have a great life - get out there and LIVE!!!
Love from all us ol' birds at

News February 2008

All
You Need Is Love
Hey,
y'all. It's me, Ms. Tex (your personal "love"
Pop). I
just wanted to let you know that Valentine's Day is coming up this
month, so it would just be natural to have the theme of the February
segment of the Poppermost song contest deal with the subject of love in
some form. Before I take you there, though, let me catch you
up
to Popperspeed real quick.
Our First "Contest" Song Is Up: "The
Bigger Kids"
This
month marks the appearance of the first Poppermost Song Contest
song. It's called "The Bigger Kids," and it is a dark,
adventurous slice of sunshine rock. Take classic 70's Who,
Queen,
and Alice Cooper, throw in some Brian Wilson and Stone Roses, and you
have a recipe for what we call our "popperetta." Until the
album
is released next year, you can hear the pre-mastered version of this
song ONLY on our MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/poppermost)
and ONLY for the month of February. Thanks again to Roberto
Delgadillo of California for being our first contest winner.
By
the way, did anyone catch the term "sunshine rock" up
there?
There's also a sunshine pop and it seems to be the genre where our
music fits. Who knew? Anyone have any thoughts on
that?
New Blogs on Eddie Van Halen, Neil
Diamond, and Terry Kath
While
you're over on MySpace checking out our new song, take a gander
at our new blogs on guitar great Eddie Van Halen, pop icon Neil
Diamond, and legendary Chicago guitarist Terry Kath. See how
learning about classic pop and rock can actually be fun.
The Word "Essay" Scares Some
Speaking
of learning, it has come to our attention that the word
"essay" for the song contest might be a little intimidating.
We're not trying to revive scary memories of school, grades,
or
studying. We just want you to share your thoughts with us -
could
be a little, could be a lot (note the difference between the winning
entries for November and December found at http://www.poppermost.com/songcontest.html).
Just tell us what's in your heart about the appropriate subject matter
and that will be wonderful.
Win Your Own Song Here!
Okay,
so I said the theme this month would be about love in some
form. We decided to twist it up a little and explore how love
can
sometimes hurt. So here's the info you need to enter this
round.
February
Trivia Question:
Which
Poppermost song deals with a broken heart
by using
the "wash away yesterday" approach?
February
"Story / Thoughts" Theme:
What is
the nicest way you've ever said,
"I'm sick
of you, get out of my life?"
Describe
the circumstances of a loving relationship gone sour
and the
details of how you managed to escape it's clutches.
As
to January's entries, we're having a hard time choosing just one out
of all the wonderful submissions, but you can read which one we picked
in a couple weeks on the Contest
page.
Another Way to Twist to Valentine's Day
A
friend shared some humorous looks at relationships with us, and in
keeping with our Valentine's Day twist, we wanted to share them with
you, too. Thanks Sheryl. :-)
Wife: "What are you doing?"
Husband: "Nothing."
Wife: "Nothing...? You've been
reading our marriage
certificate for an hour."
Husband: "I was looking for the expiration
date."
Wife: "Do you want dinner?"
Husband: "Sure! What are my
choices?"
Wife: "Yes and no."
Wife: "You always carry my
photo in your wallet. Why?"
Hubby: "When there is a problem, no matter
how impossible, I look at
your picture and the problem disappears."
Wife: "You see how miraculous and powerful I
am for you?"
Hubby: "Yes! I see your picture
and ask myself what other
problem can there be greater than this one?"
Stress Reliever Girl: "When
we
get married, I want to share all your worries and troubles, and lighten
your burden."
Boy: "It's very kind of you, darling, but I
don't have any worries or
troubles."
Girl: "Well that's because we aren't married
yet."
A newly married man asked
his
wife, "Would you have married me if my father hadn't left me a fortune?"
"Honey," the woman replied sweetly, "I'd
have married you, NO MATTER
WHO LEFT YOU A FORTUNE!"
A wife asked her husband:
"What do you like most in me, my pretty face or my sexy body?"
He looked at her from head to toe and
replied: "I like your sense of
humor."
Okey
dokey, that's it until next time. Keep those cards and
letters coming folks, and remember, the only way to win is to enter!
Happy
Valentine's Day and we love you,
Ms
Tex (for Lex and Royal)

News January 2008

Happy
New Year Everybody!
It's
been a fantastic year, and we're planning to have even more fun
this coming year. Take a free ride with us on the "funville
express" with new music, our continuing "Especially for You" monthly
song contest, great blogs, and more free downloads.
Our
latest music creation is actually a new version of
"Erika."
Same great girl in the song, but with a new kick in her musical
heels. We're in the studio putting the final touches on it
now,
so it will be available to hear on our MySpace page
in a day or so. On this new version she will transport you
back
to 60s DayGlo grooviness, so get out your go-go boots and crank up the
volume!
In
honor of the new version of "Erika," this month's song contest info
is related, and who knows, maybe your winning essay will be so good
that we'll record three versions of your song over
the next ten
years, too! For more details and simple rules of the contest,
go to Poppermost.com
and check out the "A Song Especially For You" section.
January
Trivia Question:
How old is
Erika?
January
Essay Theme:
Which of
your occupations or jobs
do you regret not
having anymore?
What made
it enjoyable?
As
promised, the first winning essay from November written by Roberto
Delgadillo was posted December 14th and you can read it at Poppermost.com.
We've already started working on his song and it can be heard around
the beginning of February. December's entries are being read
now
in preparation for posting a new winner on January 14th. Be
sure
to come back to read it, and also to enter January's contest for your
chance to win a song of your own.
Another
project we've been working on is writing "edu-tainment" blogs
on our
MySpace page
about our musical heroes (past and present) on their
birthdays.
So far we've written about Peter Buck, Davy Jones, Jorma Kaukonen, John
Lennon, Mike Mills, Joni Mitchell, Jim Morrison, Mike Nesmith, Ozzy
Osbourne, Keith Richards, Floyd Sneed, Stephen Stills, Paul Westerberg,
Zal Yanovsky, Neil Young, and Frank Zappa. Some of the others
that will be coming in the near future include David Bowie, Terry Kath,
Dave Matthews, Jimmy Page, Paul Revere, Paul Stanley, Rod Stewart,
Michael Stipe, Eddie Van Halen, and more.
Some
of these names might not seem familiar to you, but you'll find
you're intimately familiar with the music they've made over the years
when you see what bands they are or were in. Just go read the
blogs and you'll understand.
Lina,
one of our MySpace friends, summed up exactly what we wished to
accomplish when we started this offbeat form of education about pop
music history. Her comment on the recent Replacements blog
(do
you know which birthday boy listed above goes with this group?) states:
"Wonderful post, as always, Lex! Reading
these
always
inspires me to pull out old records or discs and re-listen again with
new ears - and appreciate all over again. Thanks!"
To
start out the new year, we are offering "Bitter Suite" as the new
free download. You can find it in the FREE Single
Box at Poppermost.com.
Thanks
from all of us here at Popperland HQ for helping to make it a
wonderful year!
Lex,
Ms. Tex, and Royal
