Your Poppernotes - December 2008

Are you ready, willing, and able to go "there" with us?

Actually, "there" is a bunch of things, but we're only focusing on one part in this note, and as usual we'd like to have you put in your creative two-cents worth.  (Hmm, with the economy right now maybe we'd better make that a nickel's worth!)

As we mentioned last month, we want to find a way for our friends to get more creatively involved with us and with each other -- talking, sharing ideas, passions, etc.  We think we found a place where we can create a special Poppermost and PopperTribe-related site so that everyone can participate.  We want to keep it super simple, unlike MySpace or Facebook.  Granted, there will be some guidelines so we don't go too far afield, but we still want the site to be something where all our friends can easily connect with each other.

We're shooting for sometime near the beginning of the new year.  We're still piecing it all together, and we need your help with a couple of "biggies."  So here are the two big questions for this month.

1.  We'd like to hear what you would want to be able to contribute and see while you're visiting.  Would you want to blog, write poetry, grow organic panties, tell a joke, or talk about those cool gadgets you picked up for a song at e-Bay?  Are there some cool sites you'd like to share with your PopperBretheren (and Sis-theren).  Maybe you have a stray thought that you'd like to share with someone who'll "get it."  Let us know.  We need ideas.

2.  We also need to give this "new frontier" an all-encompassing sort of name.  We thought of "Pop, Stock, and Barrel" (a take off on "lock, stock, and barrel"), but it was a little too much like the gun reference, so it got ditched.  If you can add the word "pop" in your idea, it would help us out a lot!

Of course, please remember to check out the latest contest song this month, "Angel Wings" inspired by Rishi of New Orleans at http://www.myspace.com/poppermost.  It's a love note to the great beyond, with regrets of undeclared and unconsummated love during life.  Please leave us a comment on the song, either here in e-mail or on MySpace. Thanks!

Well, that's it for now.  Hope you had a great Thanksgiving, and try not to get all bruised up while shopping for Christmas (yes, it's that time again).

So, c'mon; let's go!

Love from Vegas,
Ms. Tex

Poppermost Needs You - November 2008

Note:  The folks who actually received this newsletter via e-mail in November are part of a small, elite group of people who responded to the October newsletter's question and indicated they were "still with us."  If you, too, would like to be a part of the special group we call our Popperfamily, and be privy to some upcoming features available only to that group, please use the form above to join the Popperlist.  Thank you.

Ms. Tex here.  You're reading this because you're one of an extremely small, yet elite group of people who wrote back after our last issue and said, "I'm still with you."  Thank you so much.  So with that in mind, welcome to the very first "non-newsletter" from Poppermost.  For a variety of reasons, we've found that the type of newsletter format that Poppermost has been putting out for years just doesn't quite do it for us anymore.

Here's the deal... bottom line, we want to interact with you more on an INDIVIDUAL basis.  We want to get your opinions on things that interest you, because if they interest you, there's every possibility they'll interest at least one other member of our Popperfamily, too.

So each month, one of us will "take the reins" and share some thoughts with you, in hopes that you'll share with us, too.  This month, as leader of the band, and just overall ham that he is, Lex wanted first shot.  But before I hand you over to Lex, please remember to go have a listen to my killer drumming on "Gabriella Sasparilla," the latest contest song at http://www.myspace.com/poppermost.  Thanks!

Okay, so without further adieu, here is Lex with his thoughts.

~ ~ ~

Considering the state of everything "economic," I hope all is well on your end of the rainbow.  With that said, can we talk?  I really need some information from you.  Let's back up a moment... recently my life has been turned upside down.  I've been looking for work for over 2 months, and I finally understand that when someone says "we'll give you a call tomorrow," it's shorthand for "don't call us, we'll call you."

In an effort to keep up my spirits and not let the process of continual rejection conquer me during the job search, I've been going online to look for some kind of music relief.  I like to find radio stations, shows, and podcasts like the radio we listened to when we were younger.  You remember -- great music by great artists with hardly any commercials for car insurance, soda pop, or fast food chicken.  Regular radio has become a wasteland for sponsorship, playing average music by average talent for average people.

You and I are so above average.  So here's the part about the information I need.  I'm willing to bet that there are some great radio stations, shows, and podcasts that a bunch of us know about individually, but haven't shared yet.  Think about all of that great music out there just waiting to be discovered.

What do you think about the idea of connecting all the friends of Poppermost by establishing a forum whereby we can trade information about some of our favorite Internet radio shows?  Shows that play great music (new and classic) by great artists (new and classic).  Each friend has a taste in music that is so vast and so wide that I think your musical tastes might pique the interest of someone else.

I would really appreciate it if you could search your mind and send me a link to your favorite Internet radio stations, shows, or podcasts so that I may share them with the rest of the members of the Popperfamily.  I may be crazy, but I think that it's worth a shot.  Thanks.

Desperately trying to stop smoking,
Lex

Poppermost News October 2008

______________________________________

Hello again, fellow babies!  You know, we've been very fortunate to have survived for 7-plus years in the business of making music.  We've seen a lot of bands come and go (mostly go).  We believe that it's because most of them forgot about the people who are responsible for any band's success - their listeners!

Please help us out.  We know that you guys have lives and with that, time constraints.  We need to know that you are still with us on our journey to the "toppermost."  With that, we humbly request that if you are still interested in being part of our Popperfamily and receiving the newsletter please shoot us an e-mail simply stating "I'm still with you."  If not, that's okay, too - no harm, no foul.  Just let us know, please, so we can clean up our files.  We love you, and thanks!

Here now, the news . . .

Poppermost selected for Zia Records Compilation!  YEAH!
We are proud to announce that our song "Concentrate On Me" will be featured on the next Zia Records Local Music Compilation benefiting the Guitar Center Music Foundation.  Please support us and give to a worthy cause.  The CD will be available October 7 from Zia Records.  More information can be found in the blogs at http://www.myspace.com/ziarecordslocalcomp.

Latest "Especially For You" Contest song is "Liv Says"
Inspired by the "Paisley Underground" Movement started in southern California during the early 80s (plus early R.E.M. and the Replacements), "Liv Says" is the newest addition to the Poppermost songbook.  With its James Bond-esque riff, a righteous groove, and a rhythm that makes you wanna "shake it," we proudly dedicate this song to our MySpace pop gal pal, Liv from South Carolina.  We love you, and thank you for keeping the eternal flame of pop / rock music lit.  You're the best!

Come on over to the Poppermost MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/poppermost) and test drive the pre-mastered version of the song during the month of October.  While you're there, check out the essay that inspired our new song (in the blog archives, titled "Winning Entry for July's Song Contest").

One More Chance To Give a Nice Song a Home
Well, folks; this is it.  You have this one last chance to win a song of your very own in our Poppermost "Especially For You" Song Contest.  Just answer the trivia question (answer is on Poppermost.com) and write about the theme below.

Haven't seen the previous winning submissions yet?  No problem, they're all located at http://www.poppermost.com/songcontest.html for your reading pleasure.  Want a special, one of a kind, Christmas or birthday present for yourself or for that "somebody groovy" in your life?  Better hurry!  Supplies are seriously limited.  Act now and we'll even throw in a set of Ginsu knives (just kidding).

October Trivia Question:
Who is the bassist / recording engineer for Poppermost?

October "Story / Thoughts" Theme:
What is the coolest video ever made?

Poppermost review in the Las Vegas Weekly
Dig this; our CD, Bitter Suite Swan Songs, recently got a review from one of our local alternative papers, the Las Vegas Weekly.  It received 2 1/2 stars out of a possible 5 stars and starts out "Poppermost certainly isn't short on illusions of grandeur."  The irony?  Listed elsewhere in the same issue, Poppermost songs held the top 5 slots of the paper's "Top 5 Most Downloaded Local Songs."  Go figure.

Please feel free to take a peek at the review at http://www.lasvegasweekly.com/news/2008/sep/04/poppermost/.  Also check out the comments left by some of our listeners, and feel free to add your own if you wish.  To those who commented, thanks for the love.  We appreciate the way you have our backs!  It's your comments that give us the strength to share the review.

Poppermost available at iTunes For a Great Price
Are you looking for some cool tunes for your iPod, but economic woes got you down?  Are you afraid that your music "dough" won't rise for the occasion?  Fear not.  Poppermost is available at the iTunes Store.  Head on over, sample music from our first 3 albums, and find something you like for 99 cents per song.  Take us along on your journey!  You can fly over to the iTunes Store via http://www.poppermost.com/buy.html.

Or if 99 cents is still too much for the budget and you wish to obtain some free Poppermost music, head on over to http://www.lasvegasweekly.com/bands/poppermost/ and help yourself to some free downloads.  You're just a few clicks away!

Adieu
We bid you adieu for this newsletter.  Thought for the day: when pain or pettiness threatens to ruin your day, remember that listening to good music can help brighten it up again.

Cracklin' Rosie get onboard,

Lex, Tex, and Royal

Poppermost News September 2008
______________________________________

This Poppermost newsletter is brought to you by the word melody.  (See Poppermost and the Bee Gees.)
    mel·o·dy - [mel-uh-dee]
        –noun, plural -dies.
         1. A rhythmical succession of single tones producing a distinct musical phrase or idea.
         2. Musical sounds in agreeable succession or arrangement.

Latest "Especially For You" Contest song is "Momma B"
Inspired by the "sunshine pop" created in southern California during the mid 60s (plus Laura Nyro and Steely Dan), "Momma B" is the newest addition to the Poppermost songbook.  With its shimmering vocal harmonies, a righteous groove, and a melody that will make you chirp along, we proudly dedicate this song to Harriet B. of California.  We love you, and thank you for being a positive influence on hundreds of students.  There will never be another teacher / mentor like you, Momma!

Come on over to the Poppermost MySpace page
(http://www.myspace.com/poppermost) and test drive the pre-mastered version of the song during the month of September.  While you're there, check out the blog inspired by this wonderful educator and friend (in the blog archives, titled "Lex On Harriet, his favorite teacher").

And Speaking of Blogs . . .
While you're over on MySpace checking out the new song, please check out our blogs celebrating Gene Simmons, Elvis Costello, the late (and great) Isaac Hayes, and Maria McKee (as written by a "lovestruck" Royal).  All of these people have had a major impact on our music, and all have had birthdays this past August.  Check it out and see how learning about classic rock and pop can be fun.

Discover Music at http://www.ksne.com/cc-common/artist_submission/player.html?art=162695.  As a result, we've moved up from 81 to 75 this past month, and we still need to go higher in order to qualify for terrestrial radio play, so keep on listening as often as you can, please.  Remember to reload each time and let this marvelous melody play all the way through.  Thanks for the continued support!

A Gift From A Flower To A Garden!
Yes, just in case the Donovan reference escaped you, we are a flower in your garden, and we still have a gift for you, compliments of Poppermost, CD Baby, and AmieStreet.com.  Yep, just for you, a gift of $5 to download great melodies from http://amiestreet.com/_l/cdbabygift.  It's a limited time offer, so what are you waiting for?  Take some Poppermost music for a pesticide-free test drive with this $5 coupon.

"Melody"
Anybody remember that movie from 1971 with Jack Wild, Mark Lester, and Tracy Hyde?  Also known as S.W.A.L.K. (Sealed With a Loving Kiss) and featuring a killer pre-disco soundtrack by the Bee Gees, it's the story of 2 twelve-year-olds who fall for each other and announce to their parents that they want to get married.  The power of "first love" inspires the theme for the next Poppermost "Especially For You" Song Contest.  Just answer the trivia question (answer is on Poppermost.com) and write about the theme below.

September Trivia Question:
Which Poppermost song was written
during the L.A. Riots of 1992?

Poppermost News August 2008
______________________________________

This Poppermost newsletter is brought to you by the word harmony.  (See Poppermost and Elton John.)
    har·mo·ny - [hahr-muh-nee]
        –noun, plural -nies.
         1. A consistent, orderly, or pleasing arrangement of parts;
         2. The blending of different pitches simultaneously in music to produce a pleasing tone.

Peep this insane news flash!
Local indie record label Suicide Pop! Records, in association with Trimordial Studio, would like to congratulate Las Vegas pop / rock group Poppermost for holding down the top ten positions of Las Vegas Weekly's Local Bands Guide Top MP3 Downloads for the week of 7/24/08-7/30/08.  The news came on the heels of the Vegas band celebrating their seventh anniversary as a performing and recording unit.  Naturally we'd like to see that happen again, so:

Thanks for helping us Help The Kids!
Thanks to everyone who helped us with voting on the Gretsch Guitar contest last month.  We didn't win the equipment we wanted to be able to present to a lucky local school this time, but we will continue to look for ways to give the kids a leg up learning about music, including harmony.  We'll keep you posted about other opportunities to help us save music education for our kids.

Popperpeople - man your stations for the showdown of the century!
We have a shot at getting played on terrestrial radio.  In order for that to happen, we need your help to bring our Clear Channel / New! Discover Music Internet plays via KSNE.com up a lot higher.  This link, http://www.ksne.com/cc-common/artist_submission/player.html?art=162695, will take you to the player for "Isabella Vina," or you can access it via the link on the front page of Poppermost.com.  Play it as many times a day as you can handle, every day of the week if you can, but please let it play in its entirety.  Note: in order to count, the player has to be reloaded each time.  The first time you access it each day, there will be a 15 second video ad, but after that, all you hear is music.  There are other bands hungry and snapping on our heels as we climb the song play ladder.  In fact if you want to follow our progress up the KSNE chart, check out this page (http://www.iheartmusic.com/cc-common/artist_submission/all.html?page=1&gen=2).  As of this writing, we are at #81 and want to be #1.  Popperpeople - man your stations.  It's time for BATTLE - let's kick some ass!  Thanks for helping us out, y'all!

Gas Prices cutting into your "mad music money?"  No fears, babe!
Keep your "ride money" in your sack, Jack!  We have a gift for you, compliments of Poppermost, CD Baby, and AmieStreet.com.  Yep, you heard it, a gift of $5 to download music with great harmony from http://amiestreet.com/_l/cdbabygift.  It's a limited time offer, so what are you waiting for?  Take some Poppermost music for a gas-free test drive with this $5 coupon.

Latest "Especially for You" contest song is "All About You"
Sporting gorgeous harmonies, locomotive rhythms, a creamy Eagles-like twin guitar harmony, and a swirly U2-type vibe, "All About You" is the newest Poppersong.  In honor of the winning essay that generated the song, we dedicate it to Randy and Tanya of Minnesota!  May the love of friendship keep you warm on those cold Minnesota-winter nights.  Remember, you can only hear the pre-mastered version of the song on our MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/poppermost) during the month of August.  After that, it goes back into the vault until Disney says so.

"Say Anything"
Anybody remember that movie from 1989 with John Cusack?  Wasn't that a fun way to think about how one man can lose his daughter, his prized possession, to Cusack's Lloyd Dobbler after she discovers her dad is a liar and a thief who ripped off senior citizens?  It is in harmony with karma that we offer the theme for the next Poppermost "Especially For You" Song Contest.  Just answer the trivia question and "say anything" about the theme below.

August Trivia Question:
What is Ms. Tex's first name?
(Hint: Only her mother is allowed to call her this.)

August "Story / Thoughts" Theme:
If you could have one prized possession
from the past, what would it be?

Haven't seen the previous winning submissions yet?  No problem, they're all located at http://www.poppermost.com/songcontest.html for your reading pleasure.  Want a special Christmas or birthday song?  How about the perfect gift for that less than harmonious divorce?  Better hurry!  The contest year is almost over, and there are only 3 more chances to enter to win your own song!

Peace, love, and harmony to all of you from all of us.
Lex, Tex, and Royal

Poppermost News July 2008
______________________________________

After our long message last month, this month's news will be short and sweet!

Happy Anniversary Poppermost!
"What a long, strange trip it's been."  Yes, we're Deadheads, but more importantly, that phrase also sums up 8 years worth of Poppermost.  July 4th, 2008 will be our 7th birthday / anniversary, and we celebrate this particular year with new music coming to you every month with the song contest, and making changes from humans to birds, and all the band members being uprooted from old nests and getting settled into new ones.  This past year has been enlightening with new friends, and new adventures as we continue to search for ways to reach our goals of getting the music out and heard.

Help Us Help The Kids!
Speaking of goals, we're in the home stretch of the Gretsch contest we mentioned last month that will provide us with a way to donate a bunch of great equipment to our local school music programs to help put music back into the schools.  It runs through July 16th, and we need your vote for the song "My Condition" once every day at Gretsch - http://www.gretsch125th.com/vote/index.html?pkey=1762 for us to get a shot at a lot of wonderful Gretsch equipment (drums, guitars, bass, etc.) worth thousands of dollars, all of which will be donated for the benefit of school music for the kids.

Free Music
We have a gift for you, compliments of Poppermost, CD Baby, and AmieStreet.com.  Yep, you heard it, a gift of $5 to download music from http://amiestreet.com/_l/cdbabygift.  It's a limited time offer, so what are you waiting for?  Take some Poppermost music for a free test drive with this $5 coupon.

"Then There's Jackie"
The newest song in our cannon will surprise most of you.  It's a completely different sound for Poppermost, in that Ms. Tex is the only songbird this time.  In honor of the special friendship portrayed in the winning essay that generated the song we decided to have her take the lead on this one!  It will be the first time you've ever heard a Poppermost song without Lex taking center stage.  Remember, you can only hear the pre-mastered version of the song on our MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/poppermost) during the month of July.

"The Girl, The Gold Watch, and Everything"
Anybody remember that movie from 1980 with Robert Hays and Pam Dawber?  Wasn't that a fun way to think about changing life around us somehow?  It's in honor of hopes, wishes, dreams, and changes in our lives that we offer the theme for the next Poppermost "Especially For You" Song Contest.  Just answer the trivia question and write something about the theme below.

July Trivia Question:
Who were Lex Neon and Vegas Royal
before their big change into birds?

July "Story / Thoughts" Theme:
If you could change anything in your life,
what would it be and how would you go about it?

Haven't seen the previous winning submissions yet?  No problem, they're all located at http://www.poppermost.com/songcontest.html for your reading pleasure.  Want to see your name there?  Better hurry!  The year is almost over, and there are only 4 more chances to enter the contest and win your own song!

Thanks for your love and support,

Poppermost News June 2008
______________________________________

Hi,

Wow, there's so much going on, both during this past month and in the upcoming months, I just don't know where to start.  First, let me say this is Ms. Tex and I've taken over the newsletter this round.  This one is going to be a little longer than normal, because there's a lot of important stuff to tell you about, not to mention, I talk a lot (lol).

Vote Poppermost and help us make a donation!
Over the years we've occasionally asked you to vote for us to win something or another on different sites, and we've tried to keep those requests infrequent enough so as not to overwhelm, and a few of you have come through for us (for which we are always grateful).  Right now, we're trying to win some musical equipment for the purposes of making a donation to the continued music education of some special kids here in Las Vegas, and we need more than just a few people to participate, more than ever.  More information on the specifics of our goals will follow in later newsletters.  If for some reason you can't help us out with these competitions, then please pass the information on to some of your friends and ask them to help.

So here goes:

MyRecordLabel
Vote once a day at MyRecordLabel - http://myrecordlabel.net/vote.php?vid=42 to help us win a new acoustic guitar for our donation project.  (Scroll down to Poppermost).  One vote per e-mail address, per day.
MusicNation
Vote once a day on our page at MusicNation - http://musicnation.com/music/poppermost (below "Spin Hot Pursuit").  You'll be glad you did - the prizes will go a long way towards helping us make a better donation.
Next Gretsch Greats
Starting June 15th-July 16th, please vote once a day at Gretsch - http://www.gretsch125th.com/vote/index.html?pkey=1762 for us to get a shot at a lot of wonderful Gretsch equipment (drums, guitars, bass, etc.) worth thousands of dollars - this would truly help us reach our goals.
OurStage Judging
At first glance, this one seems a little complicated, but it isn't really.  During this past month, I've had the opportunity to actually get on this site and do a lot judging myself.  I "got hooked"... not as a musician, but as a fan of good music, just like yourself.  I've heard a lot of great music (and some not as great), and the beauty of it was I got to choose which songs I liked best and help push them into the finals (there's a new contest every month).  As it says on the OurStage site, "You, the Fans, have the power - discover new music and vote for your favorites."  Once you start finding the good music, you keep going to the next judging screen and the next, and the next, hoping to find your favorites so you can push them to the top.  It's easy and really fun, and yes, having that kind of power can be addictive.

To get started go to our "fan club" at OurStage.com - http://www.ourstage.com/fanclub/poppermost to see our page then click on the "Judge" link for a test spin to see what the judging is like.  If you choose the channel where we have songs, you might see us come up, and if you do, by all means vote "by far" best for us!  After a couple test runs you'll be prompted to sign up so you can continue judging.

Signing up isn't too bad.  You can use a pseudonym if you want to stay anonymous.  Of course if you're a musician, they ask for a little more, and you'll want to use your real information so you can get votes and collect your prizes, etc.  Any musicians signing up, be sure and let us know so we can watch for you and lend our support as well.

Note: Originally, I didn't want to ask folks to go there because it seemed like an awful lot to ask.  But when you think about it, it's a win-win situation.  Between you and us, we can discover new music as well as sow the seeds of music education.  Judging in favor of Poppermost could put us closer to the donation process.  Oh, and be sure to play Take the Talent Scout Challenge! while you're there - it's a really fun "game."

Aime Street
We just started selling our music on AmieStreet.com, and to kick things off they are giving our fans $5 to download music.  All you have to do is click on this link (http://amiestreet.com/_l/cdbaby) to get $5 to download our music or songs from tens of thousands of other great independent artists.  Not only can you get this $5 with no strings attached, their system is set up so you can get more free music and credits for "priced music" by simply "discovering" and recommending artists there.

Amie Street is a really cool site that gives fans the incentive to discover and purchase music through their unique pricing model.  All songs on Amie Street start free and rise in price up to 98 cents based on the number of times they are bought.  This encourages you to experiment with new music!  Check it out - Never pass up free music!

Hear the next contest song, "(I Am) Kait"
Don't know how many of you read the essay that won our "Especially For You" Song contest for March, but if you didn't, you missed us being naughty (edible undies and all).  We played in a porn store!!  You read the story of March's winner, Kait, and her journey of growth and learning about herself as a person, right?  Her job (which was the theme for that month) just happened to have been in a porn store.  The song is very "PG-13," and it's all about something that's important to us all -- growing up.  Come take a listen, and remember, you can only hear the pre-mastered version of the song on our MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/poppermost) during the month of June.  Thanks for the fun experience, Kait.

Your Shot at "Everything, plus a song"
Do you know of someone who has absolutely "everything" that a person could have?  Would you like a shot at presenting that person with something they don't already have, like their very own Poppermost song?   Well, here's your shot.  Just answer the trivia question and write something about the theme below.

June Trivia Question:
Which Poppermost songs
have girls names in them?

June "Story / Thoughts" Theme:
Tell us about your favorite teacher, past or present.
Were they hard on you?  What made them special
and how did they help you learn?

Haven't seen the previous winning submissions yet?  No problem, they're all located at http://www.poppermost.com/songcontest.html for your reading pleasure.  Yours could be there soon if you enter!

Thanks
Last month we had to send out the newsletter right before the issue with the Las Vegas Weekly's Readers' Choice listings hit the stands.  As our local folks know, another famous band from Las Vegas got it, but it's okay.  You know that we are already winners because we have you!

Please remember to vote and/or do some judging now and everyday at MyRecordLabel, MusicNation, OurStage, and starting 6/15 at Gretsch.  And also remember you have $5 worth of free music waiting for you at Aime Street.

Thanks for everything,
Ms Tex (Lex and Royal say hi, by the way!)

Hear the next contest song, "Dark Summer"
Back when we set up the theme for February's portion of the "Especially For You" Song Contest, we decided to twist Valentine's Day and explore the other side of love.  Our newest song, "Dark Summer" is the result of the winning essay that month written by Summer Solstice.  We asked about saying "get lost" and she responded wonderfully.  Come take a listen, and remember, you can only hear the pre-mastered version of the song on our MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/poppermost) during the month of May.  Thanks Summer.

Halfway Through the Contest!
Are you one of the people reading this and wondering, "Hey, why haven't they written a song for me yet?"  Could it possibly be that you haven't entered yet, hmmm?  Even if you have entered in previous months but didn't win yet, you can still enter again.  We're halfway through the contest, so there are six more chances for you to win a Poppermost song written especially for you.  Just answer the Poppermost trivia question correctly, then write a little something pertaining to this month's topic.  Come on, give it a shot.  You know you're just dying to dust the cobwebs off your writing brain.

This month we're balancing out the song from the twisted side of love and asking you to write about the really good mushy-gushy-can't-live-without-them kind of love.

May Trivia Question:
Which Poppermost song talks about
a shot glass (the singer's)?  What's in it?

May "Story / Thoughts" Theme:
In the form of a letter,
tell the love of your life how
you truly feel about them.

Haven't seen the previous winning submissions yet?  No problem, they're all located at http://www.poppermost.com/songcontest.html for your reading pleasure.  Yours could be there soon if you enter!

A Vote For Recognition...
There's a new website where someone has posted our music and a bunch of other cool music in several different genres.  It's set up to vote (only one vote per computer) and the purpose is basically to get recognition.  If you have a moment and can go vote for Poppermost at http://www.votenewmusic.com/wordpress/?p=49, that would be lovely.  While you're there, take a listen to some of the other music as well, and enjoy yourself.

After you hear "Dark Summer," our new song on MySpace, let us know what you think.  We love hearing from you guys!  We've said it before and we'll keep right on saying it: without you, there is no us!

Thanks for everything,
Lex, Ms Tex, and Royal

Our Next "Contest" Song Is Up: "Pattie's Record World"
A brand new Poppermost Song Contest song is up and ready for your enjoyment.  "Pattie's Record World" is a tribute to the song's namesake and the magical world of the record store, something we fear is quickly becoming an endangered species.  Until the album is released next year, you can hear the pre-mastered version of this song ONLY on our MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/poppermost) and ONLY for the month of April.  Thanks Pattie for writing a wicked essay and being our third contest winner.  Your world rocks!

And yes, folks!  She really did meet Bo Diddley, and even played his rectangle guitar.  How cool is that?  Just very, that's all.

Hey!  Win Your Own Song Here!
Why not pay tribute to your favorite people, places, and things in song?  C'mon and win a Poppersong to call your very own!  Here is your new chance to win a song written "Especially For You."  Just answer the Poppermost trivia question correctly, then drop us a line (or a few) relating to this month's topic.  How easy is that?  Just very, that's all. Good luck!

April Trivia Question:
Ms. Tex shares a birthday with her
hero, another world class drummer.
Who is this fabulous drummer?

April "Story / Thoughts" Theme:
Who is the most resilient and
inspiring person you know?
Tell us who and why.

If you want to see the variety of styles submitted already, and get some ideas, or just see a couple more details about this thing, visit our song contest page, http://www.poppermost.com/songcontest.html and read the stories that have won previously.  You could be next!

Speaking of winners...
Every one of you good folks who responded to let us know you voted in the Las Vegas Weekly Readers' Choice survey is a big winner in our eyes.  We are you and you are us.  Thanks again for taking the time and effort.  We'll let you know the results next month.  Until then, take care and remember to put a little love in your heart.

We're sharing a special news bulletin March 19, 2008...

One of our local alternative papers here in Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Weekly, is having their annual Readers' Choice awards, and we'd like your vote, please.

It's very easy!  Just go to LasVegasWeekly.com and click on the Reader's Choice banner.  When you see the box for "Local band" please enter "Poppermost."  And when you see the box for "Local Myspace.com page" enter "MySpace.com/Poppermost."

Your vote is needed by March 26th, and the results will be available on April 30th.  Anyone
can vote, even if they don't live in Vegas.  On those categories (except the band vote, of course) that might not be familiar, just leave them blank.  Also, no registration is required, so you can remain anonymous if you desire.

While we have your attention, here's a reminder that the winning essay for February's song contest has been posted.  Our congratulations go out to Summer Solstice (location withheld by request) for her inspiring story of how she told someone to get out of her life.  You can read her story at http://www.poppermost.com/songcontest.html.

And remember to go hear the swinging sounds of "Sweet Sofia Marie" at http://www.myspace.com/poppermost.  It's only there another couple weeks.

Thanks for your vote and be sure to tell your friends,
Lex, Ms. Tex, and Royal

Our Second "Contest" Song Is Up: "Sweet Sofia Marie"
The next Poppermost Song Contest song is up and running, and we DO mean running!  It's called "Sweet Sofia Marie," and in honor of this happy, mischievous child, draws its spirit from the boogie woogie and swing of the Big Band era.  Until the album is released next year, you can hear the pre-mastered version of this song ONLY on our MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/poppermost) and ONLY for the month of March.  Thanks again to John and Tania D.G of California for their beautiful thoughts on their lovely daughter, thereby becoming our second contest winner.

Win Your Own Song Here!
March... Spring... a time to toss off the old cloak of darkness and winter... a time of new beginning... a time of growth and enlightenment.  It is this time we honor with our theme this month.

March Trivia Question:
Which two Poppermost songs
deal with personal growth by
"living life on your own terms" and
"finding success and self-fulfillment?"
Hint: Content in quotes are not lyrics.

March "Story / Thoughts" Theme:
To what event or time in your life
can you attribute personal growth?

Be sure to check the new song contest page, http://www.poppermost.com/songcontest.html and scroll down for the winners in a couple weeks to see who won in February, and if you haven't read the winning stories for the previous months yet, get your butt over there already.  In addition to the essay itself, January's info mentions a very important change in Lex's life, for those of you who haven't heard.  Curious yet?  You should be.  Light a fire under your mouse finger and click here.  It's that easy!

New Website
While you're taking a peek at the winning stories, please note that our very own Royal as been hard at work creating a brand new look for the Poppermost website.  Naturally, we think it's absolutely stunning, and would love to hear your thoughts on it, as well.  If, in the process of exploring the new site, you encounter any problems, misdirected links, or anything that doesn't seem right, we'd really appreciate if you could tell us.

And for any bands or artists who are looking for places to perform, or folks who want to know about places to visit while they're in town, Royal has done an amazing amount of research on the venues in the Las Vegas area.  There is a wealth of incredible information about literally hundreds of venues, meeting spaces, and rehearsal studios that includes contact info with addresses, phone numbers, and websites, plus styles of entertainment, audience capacity, and much more.  Located at http://www.poppermost.com/linksvegasvenues.html, it is most definitely a "must see" in your tour of our site.

In Closing
Hear "Sweet Sofia Marie" here (http://www.myspace.com/poppermost), and remember, if you want your own song, enter the contest.  Most importantly, have a great life - get out there and LIVE!!!

Love from all us ol' birds at

Poppermost News February 2008

All You Need Is Love
Hey, y'all.  It's me, Ms. Tex (your personal "love" Pop).  I just wanted to let you know that Valentine's Day is coming up this month, so it would just be natural to have the theme of the February segment of the Poppermost song contest deal with the subject of love in some form.  Before I take you there, though, let me catch you up to Popperspeed real quick.

Our First "Contest" Song Is Up: "The Bigger Kids"
This month marks the appearance of the first Poppermost Song Contest song.  It's called "The Bigger Kids," and it is a dark, adventurous slice of sunshine rock.  Take classic 70's Who, Queen, and Alice Cooper, throw in some Brian Wilson and Stone Roses, and you have a recipe for what we call our "popperetta."  Until the album is released next year, you can hear the pre-mastered version of this song ONLY on our MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/poppermost) and ONLY for the month of February.  Thanks again to Roberto Delgadillo of California for being our first contest winner.

By the way, did anyone catch the term "sunshine rock" up there?  There's also a sunshine pop and it seems to be the genre where our music fits.  Who knew?  Anyone have any thoughts on that?

New Blogs on Eddie Van Halen, Neil Diamond, and Terry Kath
While you're over on MySpace checking out our new song, take a gander at our new blogs on guitar great Eddie Van Halen, pop icon Neil Diamond, and legendary Chicago guitarist Terry Kath.  See how learning about classic pop and rock can actually be fun.

The Word "Essay" Scares Some
Speaking of learning, it has come to our attention that the word "essay" for the song contest might be a little intimidating.  We're not trying to revive scary memories of school,  grades, or studying.  We just want you to share your thoughts with us - could be a little, could be a lot (note the difference between the winning entries for November and December found at http://www.poppermost.com/songcontest.html).  Just tell us what's in your heart about the appropriate subject matter and that will be wonderful.

Win Your Own Song Here!
Okay, so I said the theme this month would be about love in some form.  We decided to twist it up a little and explore how love can sometimes hurt.  So here's the info you need to enter this round.

February Trivia Question:
Which Poppermost song deals with a broken heart
by using the "wash away yesterday" approach?

February "Story / Thoughts" Theme:
What is the nicest way you've ever said,
"I'm sick of you, get out of my life?"
Describe the circumstances of a loving relationship gone sour
and the details of how you managed to escape it's clutches.

As to January's entries, we're having a hard time choosing just one out of all the wonderful submissions, but you can read which one we picked in a couple weeks on the Contest page.

Another Way to Twist to Valentine's Day
A friend shared some humorous looks at relationships with us, and in keeping with our Valentine's Day twist, we wanted to share them with you, too.  Thanks Sheryl.   :-)

Wife: "What are you doing?"
Husband: "Nothing."
Wife: "Nothing...?  You've been reading our marriage certificate for an hour."
Husband: "I was looking for the expiration date."

Wife: "Do you want dinner?"
Husband: "Sure!  What are my choices?"
Wife: "Yes and no."

Wife: "You always carry my photo in your wallet.  Why?"
Hubby: "When there is a problem, no matter how impossible, I look at your picture and the problem disappears."
Wife: "You see how miraculous and powerful I am for you?"
Hubby: "Yes!  I see your picture and ask myself what other problem can there be greater than this one?"

Stress Reliever Girl: "When we get married, I want to share all your worries and troubles, and lighten your burden."
Boy: "It's very kind of you, darling, but I don't have any worries or troubles."
Girl: "Well that's because we aren't married yet."

A newly married man asked his wife, "Would you have married me if my father hadn't left me a fortune?"
"Honey," the woman replied sweetly, "I'd have married you, NO MATTER WHO LEFT YOU A FORTUNE!"

A wife asked her husband: "What do you like most in me, my pretty face or my sexy body?"
He looked at her from head to toe and replied: "I like your sense of humor."

Okey dokey, that's it until next time.  Keep those cards and letters coming folks, and remember, the only way to win is to enter!

Happy Valentine's Day and we love you,
Ms Tex (for Lex and Royal)

Poppermost News January 2008

Happy New Year Everybody!

It's been a fantastic year, and we're planning to have even more fun this coming year.  Take a free ride with us on the "funville express" with new music, our continuing "Especially for You" monthly song contest, great blogs, and more free downloads.

Our latest music creation is actually a new version of "Erika."  Same great girl in the song, but with a new kick in her musical heels.  We're in the studio putting the final touches on it now, so it will be available to hear on our MySpace page in a day or so.  On this new version she will transport you back to 60s DayGlo grooviness, so get out your go-go boots and crank up the volume!

In honor of the new version of "Erika," this month's song contest info is related, and who knows, maybe your winning essay will be so good that we'll record three versions of your song over the next ten years, too!  For more details and simple rules of the contest, go to Poppermost.com and check out the "A Song Especially For You" section.

January Trivia Question:
How old is Erika?

January Essay Theme:
Which of your occupations or jobs do you regret not having anymore?
What made it enjoyable?

As promised, the first winning essay from November written by Roberto Delgadillo was posted December 14th and you can read it at Poppermost.com.  We've already started working on his song and it can be heard around the beginning of February.  December's entries are being read now in preparation for posting a new winner on January 14th.  Be sure to come back to read it, and also to enter January's contest for your chance to win a song of your own.

Another project we've been working on is writing "edu-tainment" blogs on our MySpace page about our musical heroes (past and present) on their birthdays.  So far we've written about Peter Buck, Davy Jones, Jorma Kaukonen, John Lennon, Mike Mills, Joni Mitchell, Jim Morrison, Mike Nesmith, Ozzy Osbourne, Keith Richards, Floyd Sneed, Stephen Stills, Paul Westerberg, Zal Yanovsky, Neil Young, and Frank Zappa.  Some of the others that will be coming in the near future include David Bowie, Terry Kath, Dave Matthews, Jimmy Page, Paul Revere, Paul Stanley, Rod Stewart, Michael Stipe, Eddie Van Halen, and more.

Some of these names might not seem familiar to you, but you'll find you're intimately familiar with the music they've made over the years when you see what bands they are or were in.  Just go read the blogs and you'll understand.

Lina, one of our MySpace friends, summed up exactly what we wished to accomplish when we started this offbeat form of education about pop music history.  Her comment on the recent Replacements blog (do you know which birthday boy listed above goes with this group?) states: "Wonderful post, as always, Lex!  Reading these always inspires me to pull out old records or discs and re-listen again with new ears - and appreciate all over again.  Thanks!"

To start out the new year, we are offering "Bitter Suite" as the new free download.  You can find it in the FREE Single Box at Poppermost.com

Thanks from all of us here at Popperland HQ for helping to make it a wonderful year!
Lex, Ms. Tex, and Royal
